💡 When to replace the white ink filter:

If your white ink isn't printing, or the output becomes noticeably lighter or inconsistent — and you've already ruled out other causes (clogged printhead, empty ink bottles, air in tubes) — it's likely time to replace the white ink filter on your D2 DTF printer.

🔧 Estimated time: 5 minutes | Difficulty: Beginner

🛡️ Before You Begin: Safety & Supplies

⚠️ Important Safety Precautions:

  • Turn off the printer before starting — the printer should be powered down but can remain plugged in for grounding (or unplug for extra safety).
  • Wear gloves — white ink and cleaner ink can stain skin and clothing.
  • Place paper towels or a cloth underneath the work area to catch any ink drips.
  • Use only official HTVRONT white ink filters — third-party filters may not fit or could restrict ink flow.

Supplies You'll Need

  • 💧 Official HTVRONT white ink filter (from accessory box or purchased separately)
  • ✂️ Scissors or cutting tool (for cutting ink tubes)
  • 🧤 Gloves (recommended)
  • 🧻 Paper towels or cloth (for any ink spills)

📖 Definition: What Is the White Ink Filter?

The white ink filter is a small inline filter located in the white ink delivery system of the D2 DTF Printer. Its purpose is to remove impurities, sediment, or coagulated pigment particles from white ink before they reach the printhead. Because white ink contains larger, heavier pigment particles than CMYK inks, it is more prone to sedimentation and clogging. A clogged or dirty filter restricts white ink flow, resulting in faded, streaky, or missing white ink in prints — which is especially noticeable on dark garments that rely on a solid white underlay.

⚙️ Step-by-Step: How to Replace the White Ink Filter

Follow these steps carefully. The entire process takes about 5 minutes.

📍 Step 1: Power Off and Set Circulation to Min

  1. Turn off the printer. (It can remain plugged in for grounding, or unplug for extra safety.)
  2. Open the top cover.
  3. Set the White Ink Circulation Speed Knob to Min to stop ink flow during replacement. (Refer to Pic 1)

📍 Step 2: Access the White Ink Filter

  1. Open the rear maintenance door located at the back of the printer.
  2. Locate the white ink filter — it is a small cylindrical component connected to the white ink tubes.

📍 Step 3: Remove the Old Filter

  1. Push the white ink filter inward to release it from its mounting clip.
  2. Remove the filter from the printer.
  3. Cut the ink tubes on both ends of the old filter to detach it completely.

⚠️ Tip: Have paper towels ready to catch any residual ink that may drip from the cut tubes.

📍 Step 4: Install the New Filter

  1. Take a new white ink filter from the accessory box (or your replacement parts kit).
  2. Insert the new filter into the mounting clip.
  3. Secure it by following the reverse steps — push it outward until it clicks into place.

📍 Step 5: Check Tube Alignment

  1. Make sure the two ink tubes are not twisted together.
  2. You can slightly rotate the white ink filter to keep both tubes straight and parallel — this ensures smooth ink flow and prevents kinks.

⚠️ Important: Twisted or kinked tubes can restrict white ink flow, leading to the same symptoms you're trying to fix. Take an extra moment to ensure the tubes are properly aligned.

📍 Step 6: Restore Circulation and Close

  1. Set the White Ink Circulation Speed Knob back to the middle position to restore normal ink circulation.
  2. Close the rear maintenance door.

📍 Step 7: Test the Printer

  1. Power on the printer.
  2. Run a nozzle check to verify white ink is flowing correctly.
  3. Print a test image on dark fabric or film to confirm white ink opacity has been restored.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: How often should I replace the white ink filter?

A: There is no fixed schedule. Replace it only when you notice white ink issues (faded output, missing white, inconsistent flow) after ruling out other causes. Some users may never need to replace it; others may need to every 6-12 months depending on ink usage and environmental conditions.

Q: Can I clean and reuse the old white ink filter?

A: No. White ink filters are designed as single-use components. Attempting to clean and reuse them may damage the filter material or introduce contaminants into the ink system. Always use a new, official HTVRONT replacement filter.

Q: Do I need to prime or run any special cycles after replacing the filter?

A: After replacement, simply set the circulation knob back to the middle position and run a nozzle check. If white ink doesn't flow immediately, run one or two automatic cleaning cycles to purge any air introduced during replacement.

Q: Where can I buy a replacement white ink filter?

A: Official HTVRONT white ink filters are available from the HTVRONT website or authorized distributors. The accessory box that came with your D2 printer includes one spare filter — check there first.

Q: Why is white ink more prone to filter clogs than CMYK inks?

A: White ink contains titanium dioxide (TiO₂) pigment particles, which are larger and heavier than the pigments in CMYK inks. These particles settle faster and are more likely to accumulate in the filter. This is why the D2 has a white ink circulation system and a dedicated white ink filter.

Q: I replaced the filter but white ink still isn't printing. What next?

A: Check the following in order: (1) White ink bottle not empty, (2) Circulation knob set to middle, (3) No air in tubes (run cleaning cycles), (4) Tubes not kinked or twisted. If all else fails, contact HTVRONT support.
