Intro

Welcome to the final installment of the HTVRONT D2 DTF Printer replacement parts series.

In the previous replacement guides, we learned:

Today, in the fourth and final replacement guide, we cover: How to Replace the Ink Sac.

💡 When to replace the ink sac:

After running a "Clean" task, click "Check" to print the nozzle check pattern. If you're seeing missing colors or heavy broken lines, and you've already ruled out other issues like printhead clogging, low ink, failed ink injection, or a saturated ink pad — it's likely time to replace the ink sac on your D2 DTF printer.

🔧 Estimated time: 15 minutes | Difficulty: Intermediate

⚠️ Important Note About Ink Tube Length:

The ink tube may need to be cut during replacement if it's too tight, which will gradually make the tube shorter over time. That's why it's best to avoid replacing the ink sac too frequently. Only replace the ink sac when absolutely necessary (after ruling out all other causes of missing colors or broken lines).

🛡️ Before You Begin: Safety & Supplies

⚠️ Critical Safety Precautions:

  • Put on gloves before handling ink sacs — ink sacs contain liquid ink that can stain skin and clothing.
  • Hold the ink sac by the NARROW sides only — holding it horizontally (by the wide sides) may cause ink to leak and damage the printhead.
  • Place paper towels or a cloth underneath the work area to catch any ink drips.
  • Use only official HTVRONT replacement ink sacs — third-party sacs may leak or not fit correctly.

Supplies You'll Need

  • 🧴 Official HTVRONT replacement ink sac(s) (from accessory box — if the spare has been used, contact support for assistance)
  • 🪛 Screwdriver (from accessory box — Phillips head)
  • 🧤 Gloves (required — ink sacs contain liquid ink)
  • 🧻 Paper towels or cloth (for any ink spills)

📖 Definition: What Is the Ink Sac?

The ink sac (also called a damper or ink damper) is a small, sealed component that sits between the ink supply line and the printhead. Its function is to filter ink and maintain consistent pressure and flow to the printhead nozzles. The D2 DTF Printer has multiple ink sacs — one for each color (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black, and White). Over time, ink sacs can become clogged, dried out, or damaged, leading to missing colors, broken nozzle test lines, or poor print quality even after cleaning cycles. Replacement is necessary when other troubleshooting steps (cleaning, nozzle checks, ink refills) have failed to resolve the issue.

⚙️ Step-by-Step: How to Replace the Ink Sac

Follow these steps carefully. The entire process takes about 15 minutes.

📍 Step 1: Move Printhead and Remove Cover

  1. On the touchscreen, click "Left" to move the printhead to the center position.
  2. Open the top cover.
  3. Use the screwdriver to remove the six screws around the printhead.
  4. Take off the printhead cover to access the ink sacs underneath.

📍 Step 2: Return Printhead to Home Position

  1. Close the top cover (important for the printhead to move safely).
  2. Click "X Reset" on the touchscreen to move the printhead back to the home position.

⚠️ Tip: Always close the top cover before using "X Reset" — this prevents accidental contact with moving parts.

📍 Step 3: Open Maintenance Door and Put On Gloves

  1. Open the maintenance door (rear or side panel, depending on your D2 model).
  2. Put on gloves — you will be handling ink sacs that contain liquid ink.

📍 Step 4: Remove the Old Ink Sac

  1. Identify the ink sac that needs replacement (based on which color is missing or producing broken lines).
  2. Hold the ink sac by the NARROW sides (the small edges).
  3. Do NOT hold it horizontally — gripping the wide sides or holding it horizontally can cause ink to leak and damage the printhead.
  4. Gently disconnect the ink sac from the printhead and ink tube.

⚠️ Critical Warning: Always hold ink sacs by the narrow sides only. Horizontal handling can cause ink to leak into the printhead, leading to permanent damage.

📍 Step 5: Install the New Ink Sac

  1. Take a new ink sac from the accessory box (or contact support if the spare has been used).
  2. Install it in the correct position — match the color and orientation of the old sac.
  3. Ensure the sac is securely connected to both the ink tube and the printhead.

📘 Note: If the ink tube is too tight, you may need to trim it slightly. However, avoid trimming unless absolutely necessary, as each trim shortens the tube for future replacements.

📍 Step 6: Reinstall Cover and Test

  1. Reinstall the printhead cover and tighten the six screws.
  2. Close the maintenance door and top cover.
  3. In IdeaStudio (or touchscreen), click "Start Injecting Ink" to refill the ink sac and lines.
  4. Run a "Clean" cycle to ensure proper ink flow.
  5. Click "Check" to print a nozzle test pattern.
  6. If the lines look clean and continuous, your ink sac replacement was successful.

🔧 Troubleshooting: After Ink Sac Replacement

Issue Possible Cause Solution
Missing color still persists Wrong sac replaced; ink tube issue; printhead problem Double-check which color is missing; run multiple cleaning cycles; contact support
Ink leaking from sac area Sac not properly seated; damaged during installation Reinstall sac carefully; replace with another new sac if damaged
Air bubbles in ink lines Air introduced during replacement Run "Start Injecting Ink" and multiple cleaning cycles to purge air
Tube too short after replacement Tube cut multiple times from previous replacements Contact support for guidance — the entire ink line may need replacement

❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: How many ink sacs does the D2 DTF Printer have?

A: The D2 has 5 ink sacs — one for each color: Cyan (C), Magenta (M), Yellow (Y), Black (K), and White (W). Each sac is specific to its color and position.

Q: How often should I replace the ink sac?

A: As rarely as possible. Ink sacs only need replacement when they become clogged or damaged. Because the ink tube may need trimming during replacement (making it shorter over time), avoid replacing sacs unnecessarily. Only replace when missing colors or broken lines persist after ruling out all other causes.

Q: Can I replace just one ink sac or do I need to replace all?

A: You can replace just the faulty sac. Use the nozzle check pattern to identify which color is causing the issue, and replace only that corresponding sac.

Q: Where can I get replacement ink sacs?

A: The accessory box that came with your D2 printer includes spare ink sacs — check there first. If you need additional replacements, please contact HTVRONT official customer support at support@htvront.com for assistance.

Q: Why must I hold the ink sac by the narrow sides only?

A: Ink sacs contain liquid ink and are sealed. Holding them horizontally or squeezing the wide sides can break the seal, causing ink to leak. Leaked ink can damage the printhead and surrounding electronics. Always hold by the narrow sides.

Q: I replaced the ink sac but the nozzle test still shows broken lines. What now?

A: Run multiple cleaning cycles and another nozzle check. If the issue persists, check: (1) Did you replace the correct sac? (2) Is the sac properly seated? (3) Are there air bubbles in the line? (4) Is the printhead itself clogged? If all else fails, contact HTVRONT support.
