Ipaint Basic Guide 3: How to Upload an Image to Ipaint | Paint by Numbers

Introduction: Adding Your First Image to iPaint

With your iPaint workspace ready (see iPaint Basic Guide 2), it's time to add an image to your canvas! This guide shows you how to use the HTVRONT app to either upload your own photo or select a design from the Library for your paint-by-numbers artwork.

Whether you want to turn a cherished family photo into a personalized painting or browse ready-made designs for inspiration, the app makes it easy to bring your vision to life. Let's walk through the options.

💡 Which Option Should You Choose?

  • Upload Your Own Photo — Best for personalized projects like family portraits, pet photos, or memorable landscapes.
  • Select a Library Design — Great for quick starts, exploring new styles, or when you're looking for creative inspiration.

Step 1: Access the Canvas Menu

Open the HTVRONT app on your phone or tablet and tap the Canvas Icon at the bottom of the screen to enter the image selection interface.

📱 App Navigation Tip: The Canvas Icon is located in the bottom navigation bar, usually between the Home and Profile icons. If you don't see it, make sure you're logged in and the app is updated to the latest version.

Step 2: Add an Image to Your Canvas

Choose one of these two options to add your image:

📷 Option 1: Upload Your Own Photo

  1. Click Upload in the bottom menu and select your image from your device's gallery or files.
  2. Wait for the app to process your image — this may take a few seconds.
  3. Choose Oil Painting as your style preference.
  4. Select either:
    • Oil Painting Transfer — Choose from Easy, Medium, or Complex complexity levels based on how detailed you want your template to be.
    • AI Transfer — Explore three styles with six artistic variations for a more creative interpretation.
  5. Tap to add the processed image to your Canvas.

🎨 Option 2: Select a Library Design

  1. Go to the Library tab at the top of the interface.
  2. Click Filter to refine your search.
  3. Under Operation Type, select Oil Painting to browse only paint-by-numbers compatible designs.
  4. Browse through the available designs and tap the ➕ icon on any design to add it directly to your Canvas.

  • Easy: Fewer color areas and larger sections — ideal for beginners or quick projects.
  • Medium: Balanced mix of detail and simplicity — great for most users.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of images work best with iPaint?
iPaint works best with well-lit photos that have clear subjects and good contrast. Portraits, landscapes, and pet photos are all excellent choices. For best results, avoid blurry images, extreme low-light photos, or images with very busy backgrounds. The AI processing works best when the subject is clearly defined against the background.
Can I edit my image after uploading it to the Canvas?
Yes. Once your image is on the Canvas, you can adjust its position, size, and rotation to fit your canvas perfectly. For more advanced adjustments like color balance or contrast, we recommend editing your image before uploading it to the app. Basic adjustments can be made within the app's editing tools.
What's the difference between Oil Painting Transfer and AI Transfer?
Oil Painting Transfer creates a classic paint-by-numbers template with clearly defined numbered areas — ideal for traditional painting experiences. AI Transfer uses artificial intelligence to generate more artistic interpretations of your photo, offering a wider range of creative styles and variations. If you want a straightforward paint-by-numbers experience, choose Oil Painting Transfer. If you want to explore different artistic looks, try AI Transfer.
How long does it take to process an uploaded photo?
Most photos are processed within 5 to 15 seconds, depending on the resolution and the complexity of the image. Larger, high-resolution files may take slightly longer. A stable internet connection helps speed up the processing time. If you're experiencing delays, try connecting to a stronger Wi-Fi network.
Can I use images from social media or online platforms?
Yes, as long as you have the rights to use the image. You can save images from social media to your device and upload them to the app. However, we recommend using your own photos or royalty-free images to avoid copyright issues, especially if you plan to display or sell your finished artwork.
